BB Cream Mini-Series Part One: Olay Fresh Effects

Hello loves! Mid-June I announced my BB Cream Mini-Series. I decided to do this because I was on the hunt for a good BB Cream. I'm not a huge fan of foundation and wanted something that would simply even out my skin tone and give me a very light coverage. I unfortunately had a lot going on in my personal life and had to put the series on hold. However, I am finally ready to share the first part of the series with you.

In the intro I said that the first BB Cream I was going to try was by Revlon. When I bought it at the store I used my hand to match my skin-tone to the shade. When I got home and tried it out it was so wrong for me! It made me look ghostly. I didn't like the way the formula felt on my skin and I didn't like the way it smelled. So I decided not to buy the correct shade and move forward with it.

Right after I made that decision I received my Sunkissed Voxbox from Influenster and it had a BB Cream in it! It was like the BB Cream gods were taking pity on me! The BB Cream I received in the Voxbox is Fresh Effects by Olay. This BB Cream boasts having a one in all solution for perfect skin. They are:

  • Refreshes skin instantly
  • Brightens for a radiant glow
  • Evens tone with a splash of sheer color
  • Hydrates for 24 hours
  • Smoothes for softer feeling skin
  • Protects against UV damage with SPF 15

Thank you BB Cream gods!

I have mixed feelings about this BB Cream. It feels light on my skin which is exactly what I was looking for. I love the smell. It's so light and fresh. I think it does a good job moisturizing and hydrating my skin. After using it my skin doesn't feel dry. It also doesn't feel oily either.

My biggest issue with it is that I can't really tell a difference on my skin. I've taken several before and after pictures to try to show the difference and I just don't see it. I feel like it's enough to brighten up my skin and make me look awake, but that's about it.

Before

After

Another big disappointment about this cream is that it only comes in two shades. The first time I went to use it and I noticed the color I instantly thought, "There is no way this is going to blend into my skin." The color is so off I thought I had another product to add to a giveaway. Then I went on Influenster to read some reviews about and and I saw a woman with a darker complexion than mine who said that she used it and she loved it. She posted a picture of herself with it on and I couldn't even tell. So I decided to give it a try myself.

The verdict: This is a good product to use as a moisturizer and to brighten your skin on days you feel like being makeup free. It's not a good product to use if you are trying to cover blemishes or red spots.

Tag: Autumn

I was tagged by the beautiful ladies at 20/30 Glam, Julie and Ashley to do this tag! I love fall so much so I'm excited for this tag! Let's get started!

Favorite thing about Autumn?
I love all of the colors! Watching the trees change colors makes me happy. I also love apple cider and doughnuts! It's one of my favorite fall treats! I was also born in the fall so I always have my birthday to look forward too! Ohh and fall fashion! Love, love, love boots and scarves! And caramel apples..oh the list could go on forever! Autumn is just amazing!

Favorite Drink?
Apple cider hands down! I love it hot and cold! I pretty much drink it everyday!

Fave Scent/Candle?
Hmm I really like the Brown Sugar scent at Bath and Body Works. I usually buy the hand soap around this time and wash my hands all day! I also like Vanilla and Apple scents around this time.

Best Lipstick?
I recently just got into wearing lipstick so I don't have a favorite one for fall yet. Now that fall is here I'm ready to pick out some shades and see what works and what doesn't.

Go to Moisturizer?
Right now I'm just using Ponds and during the winter I swear by Cetaphil. I will be looking for another moisturizer soon though. My Ponds one isn't really doing the trick anymore.

Fave Go to Color for the eyes?
Anything neutral! I love neutral colors and that's all I really wear. I love browns and golds specifically. My favorite gold is by NYX. It's from their Ultra Pearl Mania line. It's so pigmented and is a beautiful shade.

Favorite Music to listen to?
I'm a pop type of girl! It drives my husband crazy! I'm really into Ariana Grande and Fifth Harmony right now! I can't get enough of Beyonce and Demi Lovato! And my guilty pleasure is Miley Cyrus!

Favorite Outfit to wear?
A great pair of jeans that makes my butt look good, boots, with a simple top and accessories. I'm getting into leggings a bit now so that might be my go to this fall!

Autumn Treat?
Starbuck Caramel Apple Spice!! If you haven't had one, you're missing out! Get one now! :)

Favorite Place to be?
At home cuddling with the hubby! I love just spending time with him whether it be watching movies or watching him play video games.

That's all of the questions! Here's who I'm tagging:

Liz from http://www.myprettyobsessions.blogspot.com/

Kaitlin from http://blushingbeautyxo.blogspot.com/

DeBresha from http://makeupjunkielife.blogspot.com/

Ambia from http://loveambam.blogspot.com/

And I tag anyone else that wants to participate!

Thank you Julie and Ashley for tagging me!

Lash Bash Party: Big Disappointment

I've been avoiding writing this post because I wasn't really sure how to approach it, but I've always promised that I will always be honest with my readers and I don't want to disappoint. If you've been following my blog then you already know all about my Lash Bash Party and my excitement for it. I bought tons of decorations, put together games, and sent out cute invitations.

The Photo Area
Unfortunately, my party didn't go anywhere close to as planned. I invited 9 girls and only 2 came. One of those 2 resides in the house so in actuality only one person came. It was very disappointing. At that point I had only had 2 girls tell me that they might not be able to make it, but I had not heard from the rest so I thought they were all still coming (everyone RSVP'ed so I had no reason to think they weren't coming). Needless to say I was hurt. Here is a video of my reaction to the lack of guests. It is how I honestly felt at the time.

I had put so much time and energy into planning this and had spent a good amount of money on extras that I was pretty upset. However, I didn't want to ruin the party for my two guests that were there because it wasn't their faults that that happened. I put on a brave face and told them not to worry about it and that we would still have fun. My 15-year-old sister isn't much a people person so she pretty much stayed in the other room watching TV. It gave me and my friend time to catch up though since we hadn't seen each other in a while.

The Gift Bag Table complete with Makeup Themed Wine Glasses
After getting caught up and eating some delicious food (my mom made homemade chicken salad! yum!) I still wanted her to have the opportunity to try the products. So I grabbed a gift bag for her. I also gave her one of the game prizes since she actually showed up. She tried the mascara first and loved it! It was great seeing her reaction to the difference it made! Next, she tried the Benetint and loved that too! She loved how it gave her a natural look. I can't remember if she tried the lipgloss or not.

The Wine Glasses
In the prize bag she had a sample of the BadGal mascara. She tried it and really liked that one as well. I told her how she could layer the two to get a great look. I also shared with her some of the full sized products they sent us. She wanted to try the eyebrow gel since she had never used one before and she fell in love with that as well! I think I might have turned her into a Benebabe that night!

The Makeup Bar
After playing around with the makeup she went over to the Makeup Bar and put together her goody bag! She teased that I was trying to force her to like pink.We talked for a little bit longer and then she headed home. After she left my mom, my sister, and I began to clean up. My mom was saying that one of her friends wanted to have a girls night and asked if I would come over for that and give them some makeup tips! It made me feel great to know that my mom was trying to find a way to cheer me up.

The Guest Table
I was really dreading writing this post. All I could think was, "Wow, this is so embarrassing." I had done so much promoting of this party and had received so many comments on the posts about it that I knew I couldn't pretend like it never happened. Even after the party I had people commenting that they couldn't wait to see pictures. I didn't know what to do. I ultimately decided to not let this keep me down and that I was going to write the post anyways and just be honest. I was also upset because I felt like I couldn't enter the contest after the party because I don't have any pictures to share, but I decided to work with what I have and still enter anyways. Even though I only had two guests I still had a great time. Thank you Benefit and Ipsy for the opportunity!

Lash Bash Party: Planning Mode

Hey loves! Here's another update about my upcoming Lash Bash Party. It is now in full swing planning mode! I got my package last week and filmed an unboxing video.  I've been having so much fun coming up with my menu and decorations.

Here's the menu that I have put together so far:
  • Fruit tray
  • Veggie tray
  • Cupcakes
  • Special surprise treat (I'll put up pictures and link the recipe after the party)
  • Strawberry Lemonade
  • Deli sandwiches
  • Possibly meatballs?
  • Chicken Salad
I've never really hosted a party or anything before so I'm pretty nervous. I want everything to be perfect. Including the decorations. Right now I know I want the room to look like a pink explosion Pink is my absolute favorite color and I like to use it whenever I can.

So far I have made some of the pom-poms. I looked at the ones Benefit recommended but I'm not that great at DIYing so I went to Michaels and bought the kits to make them. They were super easy and came out nice! I also bought streams and pink polka dot balloons. My driveway is hard to see and people always miss it so I'm going to put balloons out to help my guests find it.

I've already started putting together games although I haven't decided which ones I actually want to do. Except for the 2 truths 1 lie game. I'm going to use that as an icebreaker since most of my guests won't know one another. I've thought about doing a trivia game, but I'm not sure how that'll work out if my guests aren't familiar with Benefit products.

I did buy some prizes for the games. Since Benefit full sized products are out of my price range I opted for a couple of their sample kits. I split these up into 3 separate prizes. I got both of these sets from Ulta. The Sizzlin' Six was $27 and Big Time Prime was $12.

So that's all I'm going to post for now! I don't want to giveaway all of my ideas and plans! You'll just have to wait until the pics are on Instagram to see everything else including my special surprise treat! What do you think the surprise is?

My Favorite Beauty Products!

Hey ladies! The ladies over at 20/30 Glam inspired me to write this post! This is a list of my favorite beauty products! It took me forever to write this post because my list is so short and I felt like I needed to make it longer. Then one day it hit me: I don't have to have a million and one favorite products! If I only have a few then I only have a few and those are the ones I'll share with you! So here are my favorites!

1. They're Real Mascara by Benefit Cosmetics
This mascara is my absolute favorite! People always think I'm wearing falsies when I have this on. It's a bit pricey at $23 but it's worth every penny!

2. 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner by Urban Decay
I've been obsessed with this eyeliner ever since I received it in my December 2012 Ipsy bag. I've only tried one color so far and that's zero. It's just a black liner. I absolutely love it! It's very rich and creamy. I normally have a very hard time applying liner to my lower lash line. My eyes have that never ending twitching problem where it blinks a million and one times and I can't put anything near my eyes. It's horrible. Anyways, with this 24/7 eyeliner I can line my lower lash almost flawlessly. It goes on so smooth and doesn't irritate them. I don't think I'll ever use another eyeliner-at least not on my lower line. These are also a bit pricey at $19, but again they are so worth it!

A look I did using They're Real! Mascara and 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner.

3. Baby Lips by Maybelline
You can find these handy lip balms at Target, Walmart, Ulta, and other drug stores. Usually no more than $4 these balms are awesome. My lips stay soft, smooth, and hydrated after applying this. They come in different shades and are actually pretty pigmented. I found this out the hard way when I bought 3 of the colored ones thinking they would be sheer and they weren't. The colors aren't ugly but some of them just didn't fit me at all. My favorite is the one called Quench. It has no coloring so I can wear it anytime.

4. Beauty Protector and Detangler
I'm not really sure who makes this product, but I received in one of my Birchboxes. I love it! My hair is going through some changes (read: my hair is an asshole) and I really needed something to help me comb through it without all of it breaking off. This protector and detangler made my hair soft and easy to manage. It cut my blow drying time down a bit as well.

A look I managed after using the protector and detangler.

That's all I've got for now. Maybe I'll update this at a later time when I have more products to add. What are your favorite beauty products?

Lash Bash Party: Invitations

Hey guys! Just wanted to give a quick update about my Lash Bash Party planning and show you the invitations. I sent out most of my invites today. I was trying to wait a little bit longer to see if Benefit or Ipsy were going to add invitation templates to the lash bash party website, but I wanted my invitees to have time to RSVP and to send more invitations if someone is not able to come.

I bought these really cute invites from Target. The border is silver with leopard print and it has another pink border inside of it. They only cost me $8. You can buy invitations cheaper at the dollar store or you can make your own. I'll tell you how below.

I thought these invites were perfect for a girly party. Plus they had some pink in them and pink is my favorite color! The only thing I didn't like about these invites was that there wasn't much space left for me to add additional info. That's why I decided to put inserts into the envelopes. I was browsing the Ipsy Facebook Page and saw that another Ipster had made her own invitations using the picture from the congratulatory email they sent us. I inquired as to how she did it and then decided to make my own inserts. She told me that she just whited out the text and then added her own text to the picture. I wasn't quite sure how she did this so I played around with it myself. Here are the ones I made:

Here is the original picture:

Here's how I made them:

  1. Copy the picture that you would like to use. Since I only needed inserts I used the 'one "lash" chance' picture from the website.
  2. Open the paint app on your computer and paste the picture.
  3. Use the eraser tool to remove any text and/or pictures you do not want to use.
  4. For mine I wanted to use the picture of the "Glambassador" so I opened one of the pictures with her on it and cut her out from it. Once I cut her from the picture I pasted her into mine. You can use any picture of your choice or no picture at all.
  5. Use the text tool to add your text. You can choose the size, color, and font. Be careful when using the text tool because there's no way to delete it and sometimes pressing "undo drawing" will undo more then just the text you added. I know this from experience haha
  6. Print
I tried to print mine at home, but my printer did not have enough ink and only printed one. I didn't feel like buying ink so I had them printed at CVS instead. I was able to pick them up the same day (about an hour later) and it cost me $3.93 including tax. The only downside was that I didn't print the correct size so some of the printing is cut off.

The insert printed from my printer.
The insert printed at CVS.

The pictures are kind of hard to read on here so here is what they say:

"Get ready for an evening of fun filled with games, snacks, laughter, and most importantly tons of mascara! See you there! Rodneya"

I really want this to be a social get together so at the bottom of my inserts it says: Tweet and Instagram with me: @neyavbeautytalk #nvbtlashbash

I'm hoping that my girls will use the hashtag I gave them so that I can easily find all of the pics from the party to add them to the blog! I'm even thinking of doing some video during the party too!

Were you selected to be a glambassador? Have you started your planning? What are you doing for yours? If you haven't applied and would like to hurry and apply here. The last chance to enter is 9/8.
